Dr Dempsey is a gentle giant, always friendly, always smiling, always courteous, always informative, always prepared for the consultation. He listens, he imparts the relevant advice and updates. He is willing to talk about ongoing drug research and the possibilities for the patient. He dictates his follow-up correspondence while the patient is present and so there is no ambiguity re. the consultation and follow-up measures. I cannot recommend him highly enough. In my humble opinion, we are very fortunate to have his calibre of consultant in our area.

I was worried before I met Doctor Dempsey but he immediately put me at ease he explained in full about my condition and I left completely happy although I know I have a long way to go yet. I am very happy to be in his care.

Dr Dempsey took over as my chest consultant when Professor Friend retired approximately 16 years ago. I was extremely worried when Prof Friend left as to who would take his place, as he was a wonderful consultant and an extremely hard act to follow. I was under his care for many years and so would miss him greatly. I need not have worried as Dr Dempsey is a real professional and a gentleman, very approachable, conscientious and caring. He also has a great sense of humour. I have been admitted to hospital on numerous occasions during my lifetime, suffering from chronic brittle asthma, which can really get you down, like most respiratory conditions it is very debilitating, as are many disabilities, restricting daily activities. Dr Dempsey inspires confidence after discussion of medical problems and goes above and beyond what is required in his work. Prior to ending his consultation, Dr Dempsey carries out a follow up by dictating correspondence to my GP, in my presence, occasionally stopping to check details, which as a patient I respect. He engages you in the management of your treatment. You feel like an individual and not just another patient name on a file. It is a pleasure to have him as my consultant and I thank him for his advice and excellent care over the past years and hope to have his continuing care for many future years to come!! He is a credit to his profession and I am confident in the level of care he provides. The only suggestion I would like to put forward is for consultants to be allowed to advise patients of and possibly offered any new treatments that could be made available to help live a better quality of life. Patients normally only find out about new treatments from other sources or through research. Mandy
